| THINGS TO DO |
|
There are many things that you can do to help conserve
Australian bats. In these web pages you will be able to find a number
of conservation activities that you can be involved in or support in other
ways. If you are involved in Landcare or other groups that regenerate native vegetation, please consider the plant species lists that we have provided for flying foxes. Planting these species in areas where they may once have occurred naturally, would be of great assistance to these bats, since one of the most serious threats that they face is vegetation destruction. If you know of the locations of flying fox camps and want to make some observations for us, you can participate in the Batwatch program and fill some survey forms. If you go caving, please read our information on bats and caves. As a responsible outdoors person, you should be aware of the impacts that you can have and take the necessary precautions to ensure that these bats are left undisturbed. |
| DONATIONS |
| The Australasian Bat Society is a non-profit organisation
and relies primarily on membership subscriptions to fund its operations.
Donations are always gratefully received and these can be sent by mail to
the Society at
PO Box 3229, Please make cheques payable to the Australasian Bat Society. As an incorporated society, our financial affairs are independently audited each year and you can be assured of our integrity and legality. As a sponsor, you may also specify the use to which your donation is to be put if you so wish. One particular issue which has concerned us in recent times, is the plight of our flying foxes. In early 2001, the Executive decided to create a Flying Fox fighting fund. Back to top |

Any donations given to this cause will be used to develop and implement conservation strategies for these bats, including the promotion of flying foxes to the public, the continuation of population surveys for our two species of greatest conservation concern, the promotion of a new spacing design for low voltage power lines to reduce flying fox electrocutions and other similar projects. Once again, please make cheques payable to the Australasian Bat Society and indicate separately, your preferences for expenditure of your donation. Back to top |
