Potential threats
Forest bats are at risk from a wide range of potential threats. These include:-
Land clearing • Clearing of forest habitats for agricultural use or urban expansion
• Impacts through loss of suitable roosts, foraging habitat and reduction in or loss of food sources
Firewood Collection • Impact where dead stags are cut down for firewood resulting in a loss of roosting and maternity sites
Habitat Alteration • Changes to unique parts of the habitats required by a species e.g. removal of understory, removal of hollow-bearing trees
Loss of Food Sources • Removal of food sources such as flowering/fruiting plants
Human Persecution • Where behaviour of bats causes conflict with human interests e.g. flying foxes feeding on orchard fruits or where camps conflict with humans.
