National Radio News is produced and broadcast from Bathurst NSW by a team of three professional journalists, supported by cadet journalists and contributors/researchers.
NRN reports on national and international news using its own resources and with input from Australian Associated Press (AAP), BBC and Sky News Australia.
Our philosophy is:
NRN covers news and issues from the mainstream, rural and regional, community and international agenda. We choose lead stories for our community radio audience and take an independent line from other media outlets. That’s why NRN is both special and innovative.
Many subscriber stations are in regional Australia, so there's a particular focus on the information needs of listeners who live outside the big cities. In some cases, NRN is the only news radio service available. Each bulletin is 3 minutes and 50 seconds long and it's a mix of national and international news plus sport and finance.
NRN is closely linked to the School of Communication at Charles Sturt University’s Bathurst campus; the School has an enviable reputation for its graduates gaining employment in the media. Former NRN staff and cadets now work for the ABC, Sky News and the main commercial television and radio news groups.
