St Mark’s National Theological Centre is part of Charles Sturt University‘s School of Theology in Canberra, Australia’s national capital. Located on the shores of Canberra‘s Lake Burley Griffin, St Mark’s offers university accredited studies in a range of theological fields at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. St Mark’s has a strong reputation for depth and breadth of scholarship in theology, and close connections with a number of Christian traditions, maintaining a well-established role in the education of lay people.
Located just two hours from Sydney, Canberra showcases culture and the arts, sporting facilities, as well as providing shopping and a huge variety of leisure activities.
Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture
The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture is located in Canberra and has been a Division of Charles Sturt University since 1997. It locates itself in both the ecumenical and academic communities. The priorities of the ACC&C are ecumenism, interfaith dialogue, reconciliation between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Australians, youth concerns, academic research and the relationship of theology to social issues.
The ACC&C is situated on a large corner block fronting Kings Avenue and Blackall Street, Barton, on the Canberra campus of the CSU. It overlooks Lake Burley Griffin and is neighbored by St Mark’s Theological College.
The Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture is a place for:
- The study of the different Christian traditions
- The common witness and mission of the Christian churches
- Encounter and dialogue between Christians and people of other faiths
- The interaction of the Christian Faith and the Arts
- National occasions of celebration and commemoration
- Academic excellence in theology
- The role of Christianity in Australian society and culture
The newly completed Academic House (called George Browning House) is the Headquarters of the intellectual life of the ACC&C. It houses the administration of the ACC&C, the CSU Public and Contextual Theology (PACT) Strategic Research Centre, a community of scholars, the Global Network for Public Theology (GNPT), part of the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE), the CSU part of the Governance Research Network (GovNet) and the Centre for Ageing and Pastoral Studies (CAPS).
