Welcome from the Head of Campus

As the Head of Dubbo Campus I acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which this campus is built. I pay respect to the Elders past, present and future, for they hold the memories, traditions, culture and the hopes of Aboriginal Australia.

Charles Sturt University’s vision of a National University of Inland Australia presents the Dubbo Campus with the opportunity to contribute to the achievements of our regional students and communities. We offer higher educational courses for the professions which contribute to the training and retention of professionals for inland and rural Australia. We are especially concerned with education and research which will improve health, education and well-being for inland Australians.

Dubbo Campus has grown significantly since it was opened in 1997. I am delighted to have been appointed as Head of Campus in 2007 - I think it fitting that in the year of its tenth anniversary, leadership of Dubbo Campus has been passed to a locally born Wiradjuri man. With my appointment I look forward to leading the Campus through this next stage of development.

The City of Dubbo is located at the junction of the Mitchell, Golden and Newell Highways in the Western Plains of New South Wales. It has a population of nearly 40,000 and supports a total regional population of more than 120,000 people, extending out to the borders with South Australia in the west and Queensland to the north. Dubbo boasts the impressive Western Plains Zoo, the Western Plains Cultural Centre and thriving sporting and cultural life.

The Dubbo Campus is positioned to attract a very diverse range of students from local and regional students to city dwellers. The range of courses offered on our campus includes nursing, primary and early childhood education, social work, community and public health, accounting and business. We also offer a variety of flexible teaching methods to suit differing personal circumstances. We arrange regional placements in nursing and teaching, and attract an increasing number of students from many Indigenous communities.

In 2007 the Campus received funds for construction of a Dental Education Clinic which will be part of Charles Sturt University’s multi-campus School of Dentistry and Oral Health. In addition, funding was also approved for development of extensive recreational facilities which will enhance Campus life and contribute to the local community.
