Recent Events

National Ride to Work Day

About a dozen CSU staff members took part in National Ride to Work Day (Wednesday October 14), which aimed to encourage workers to swap their cars for bikes more regularly.

(An estimated 1.35 million Australians drive less than 5km to work each day. Cycling instead would generate substantial monetary savings, cut pollution and slow climate change.)

The CSU riders cycled 5km from Bill’s Beans coffee shop in East Orange to the Orange Campus, where they shared a breakfast at Banjos. See photos of the cyclists preparing for the ride.

Public lecture

At the last free public lecture on the Orange Campus, the Nature Conservation Trust of NSW chief executive officer Rob Dunn explained the work of the trust, outlined how it is helping to protect private properties with high conservation values, and examined the emerging market for conservation real estate.

Asia Today forum

The Asian Agribusiness Research Centre was established in 1996 to help rural industries and businesses and governments in Australia better understand the potential for agribusiness trade with Asian countries. The work of the centre, which is based at CSU’s Orange Campus, continues to bear fruit. The AARC’s Asia Today Forum in Parkes on August 13 provided a review of Asian markets for cereals, oilseeds and pulses and the potential to tap into these markets. Previous Asia Today forums have focused on the outlook for beef and lamb markets in Asia.

World Environment Day

As part of World Environment Day 2009 (Friday June 5), a group of CSU Orange staff members cycled to work. The cyclists met outside the Bill’s Beans coffee shop in East Orange and rode together along the 5km route to the Orange Campus, before sharing breakfast together at Banjos. The ride helped highlight simple things we could all do to minimise our carbon footprint and help the environment.

Biggest morning tea

Staff at the Orange Campus raised more than $240 as part of the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea annual fundraising event on May 28. All money raised went toward cancer research.
