Visiting Artists

Guidelines for Visiting Artists Program

1. Introduction

  1. The Head of Wagga Wagga Campus of Charles Sturt University has within his budget a sum of $12,000 to distribute for proposals to support visiting artists to Charles Sturt University.
  2. The term 'visiting artists' can be broadly defined to encompass a range of areas including artists working in the fields of, for example, painting, drawing, design, sculpture, ceramics, silversmithing, textiles or photography, musicians, actors, directors/producers, technical theatre, television and sound exponents, media specialists, writers and artists practising in a field apposite to an approved course of the University.

2. Proposals

  1. The aim of the program is to enrich the life of the University and the community by providing contact for University staff and/or students and the community with a skilled practitioner in the various arts through that practitioner being based at Charles Sturt University for a brief period or, in some cases, for longer terms.  Programs may include readings, staff seminars, workshops, recitals or other performances within the University or in the community, technical demonstrations and specific consultation times, as well as informal involvement in normal lecture and tutorial situations.
PLEASE NOTE: The program is not designed to be a substitution for the normal teaching program.
  2. Applicants are encouraged to consider ways in which a visiting artist proposal may cover more than one school or campus.  An application may also consist of connected proposals incorporating two or more artists in one program.
  3. Proposals may be submitted to supplement funds from other sources.
  4. There is no prescribed period for the artist to be on campus in this program.
  5. Proposals must include a detailed budget including travel, accommodation and a stipend as negotiated between the artist and the School/Faculty in which the artist will be located.  Details should also be provided on additional support and/or facilities (e.g. office space, studio, consumables, resources) to be provided by the School/Faculty in which the artist will be located.
  6. Visiting artists shall be responsible to the Head of Wagga Wagga Campus during the period of residence.
  7. The University reserves the right to terminate an appointment as a Visiting Artist with immediate effect and to withhold any stipend that may have been due after this termination.
  8. A full report MUST be submitted to the Head of Wagga Wagga Campus at the completion of the visiting artist's program.  Failure to do so may result in future applications for funding being refused.

The closing date for submissions for the 2012 Visiting Artists' Program is Monday 28 January 2013.  Late applications will not be accepted.  Please forward applications to the Head of Wagga Wagga Campus
