The EPA issues a licence to use a radioactive substance or an irradiating apparatus. Except for prescribed activities with strict supervision, it is illegal to use a radioactive substance or irradiating apparatus without obtaining a licence from the EPA. A licence application may be obtained from the Executive Officer of the Committee, to be completed by the applicant before being signed by the Presiding Officer of the Radiation Safety Committee. The completed application is then sent to the address listed on the application together with the required licence fee.
An annual renewal is also required. The renewal application needs to be sent to the Executive Officer for approval, prior to be submitted to the EPA.
Further information can be obtained from the Section 2.1.1 of the Radiation Safety Manual.
