Responsible for:
- Draft new academic regulations, policy and procedures and amendments to academic regualtions, policy and procedures. Monitor the currency, effectiveness and administration of the University's academic policies.
- Secretary to the following committees:
- Academic Senate;
- Standing Committee of Academic Senate;
- Academic Senate Audit Committee;
- Academic Misconduct Appeal Committee; and
- University Medals Committee.
- The Manager, Academic Senate is required to clarify policy issues and provide advice at meetings. Other duties include writing papers for consideration by Academic Senate, the preparation of agenda and minutes for meetings; preparation of draft resolutions to be considered by committees; ensure that appropriate action is taken following meetings, including the promulgation of decisions; liaise with other committee officers, University officers, Presiding Officers and committee members in relation to papers to be considered; maintain up-to-date membership information; ensure that recommendations and supporting documentation passes through the committee system as necessary; maintain appropriate committee records; schedule meetings of committees; make venue arrangements; research committee-related issues and prepare briefing material as required. In addition, the Academic Secretary also provides assistance or advice on meeting procedures and matters affecting the proceedings of meetings and the conduct of the business of a committee.
- Provide advice to staff, students and members of the public on academic regulations, policy and procedures.
- Organise meetings of committees relating to policy processes, such as Academic Senate working parties and Academic Misconduct Appeals Committees. Coordinate the conduct of elections for academic committees and the appointment/nomination of members to academic committees. Prepare theĀ annual schedule of meetings for all senior academic and administrative committees.
- Serve on Senate working parties set up for review of Senate policies and provide advice and draft reports and recommendations to Senate for those working parties.
- Oversee the updating of the University's Academic manual after meetings of the Academic Senate, and whenever required, with close liaison with the Academic Secretary. Also responsible for ongoing quality assurance of the Manual, with particular reference to consistency between sections and policies and regular checking for problems of cross-reference.
