Primary Industries Centre for Science Education (PICSE)

The adoption of the PICSE program has developed out of a commitment by CSU and University of Tasmania, to work with schools in the Riverina Region of NSW towards addressing under representation of students from low socio-economic status (LSES) backgrounds within the science and primary industries in higher education.

The Primary Industry Centre for Science Education (PICSE) is a National Strategy of collaboration between universities, their regional communities and local primary industries, to attract students into tertiary science and to increase the number of skilled professionals in agribusiness and research institutions. PICSE is the national infrastructure for a supply chain that provides the next generation of researchers and industry scientists. The Primary Industries targeted by PICSE are those which focus on the sciences of agriculture, aquaculture, ecology, horticulture, fisheries, water security, sustainability, climate change and the environment.

PICSE focuses on connecting secondary science teachers and tertiary bound students with science based primary industries and career paths. The program is coordinated by a Science Education Officer, Emma Wordsworth, based in Wagga Wagga. Emma's office is located in the E H Graham Centre.
