First Year Experience Conference

Developing a critical mass of staff with expertise in the First Year Experience is a goal of Academic Support. To help achieve this goal, ten sponsorships worth $1,000 each are provided to academic and general staff to attend the Pacific Rim First Year Experience Conference each year.

In order to broadly disseminate the information from the conference, each staff member must write and present a report to the Faculty Learning and Teaching Committee (or Divisional equivalent) on their return.These reports will be made available on Academic Support web site. Each sponsored attendee is expected to commence or further develop a first year experience project and present this at the following year's conference.

Outcomes

The outcomes of this scheme in a short period have been outstanding:

Of note is a recipient of one of the first sponsorship recipients Dr Lucy Webster, Faculty of Science. Lucy has heavily engaged with transition professional development opportunities and this year received an ALTC Citation in the Early Career Achievement category and was also promoted within CSU.
