Start your CSU Online Orientation

A thorough orientation is essential to successful study at CSU. The time between accepting your offer and the start of your first session is the perfect time to begin your orientation.

Pre-departure enrolment information

International students studying on campus in Australia need to know some important information that will make their transition as smooth as possible.

More on Preparing for arrival

Permanent residency

This offer of admission is made to you as an international fee-paying student.

If you obtain Australian permanent residency before enrolling in the program, your offer of a place (or your enrolment) as an international student will lapse. Your application for admission as a local student will then be assessed. Please note that because of government controls on the number of local students who can be enrolled, you may not qualify for a local place. If you obtain permanent residency before you enrol, you must notify CSU in writing as soon as possible, enclosing certified documentary evidence of your residency status.

If you obtain Australian permanent residency prior to the Census Date in any enrolment session, your enrolment will change to that of Australian student status.

If you obtain Australian permanent residency after Census Date in any enrolment session, your enrolment will continue as an international fee-paying student until the end of that session at which time it will change to that of Australian student status.

For postgraduate research courses, all enrolments are offered on a fee-paying basis regardless of residency status.

Late enrolment

International students must arrange to be on campus prior to the start of the session to take part in a compulsory Orientation program. If you are going to arrive after the commencement of the session, you must seek approval from CSU. Please advise your expected date of arrival when applying for approval for late enrolment. Students will not be allowed to enrol after the end of the second week of session.

Academic load / attendance / academic performance

It is a requirement of your student visa that you maintain satisfactory academic progress during your studies and that you complete those studies within the timeframe identified on your visa. In addition, as a student visa holder you must maintain 80% attendance at classes during your study. Changes to your enrolment and any breach of the student visa condition in relation to attendance or satisfactory academic performance must be reported to the Department of Immigration.

Notification of address in Australia

It is a requirement of your student visa that you notify CSU, as your education provider, of your address in Australia within seven days of your arrival. You are also required to advise any change of address within seven days. You will be reminded of this during Orientation at your CSU campus.

Complaints and appeals

If at any time you are not satisfied with the service provided to you or the decisions that have been made by Charles Sturt University, you may submit a complaint to the University Ombudsman. Contact the University Ombudsman

Disclosure information

CSU reminds you that the information provided in your application may be made available to Australian Commonwealth and State Agencies pursuant to obligations under the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 and the National Code. CSU is required under Section 19 of the ESOS Act 2000, to inform the Department of Immigration about changes to your course enrolment and any breach of your student visa condition relating to satisfactory academic performance.
