- History
- Bright shared the excitement of the 1850's gold rush, and the township was established during these early years. When the rush was over those who stayed on used the country's natural resource, timber, to establish a saw milling industry.

With great foresight, these pioneers planted Bright's broad avenues of elms, chestnuts, poplars and scarlet oaks. More than a century ago the vivid autumn colours of these trees attracted visitors to the town.
The Bright Alpine Club was formed in 1883 to help visitors enjoy the district's natural attractions. Bright's first guide book was published in 1887; it included maps of walking tracks and bridle paths - relics of the gold-mining days - specially marked and graded according to degrees of difficulty - these are still enjoyed today.
Bright's first railway station was opened in 1890, but the hastily built timber structure met with the stern disapproval of Bright's leading citizens, and was replaced with a red-brick railway station by 1900, which now serves as museum headquarters for the Bright Historical Society.- Geography
