Albury-Wodonga Region

PS Cumberoona

History

A genuine Murray River Paddlesteamer the first ever built at Albury.
The original "PS Cumberoona", launched at Echuca was named after Cumberoona Station on the Upper Murray. Cumbrooona is a an Aboriginal word that means "Crooked River". The current Paddlesteamer Cumberoona is a non-profitmaking operation which was built by the people of the Albury-Wodonga area as an Australian Bicentenary project.

This attraction was built so that the younger generation and those young of heart can experience the living history of past days when the paddlesteamers helped to develop this country.

Today

The Murray River is the major natural attraction of the Albury-Wodonga region, and what better way to see Australia's greatest and first river than from the decks of the Paddlesteamer PS Cumberoona.

The Cumberoona is a replica of the paddlesteamer which worked their way up and down the mighty Murray in the days when this river was the major link to the trading world. This thriving river industry ensured inland Australia prospered, and previously isolated regional centres were kept in touch with the outside world.

However, history still lives, and now the opportunity to relive those days gone by....days which forged much of the Australian character and spirit, is available.

Join the relaxing cruise on the PS Cumberoona, Albury's own genuine wood fired Paddlesteamer.

The Captain's commentary will take you back for a glimpse of the historic past.

Enjoy the beautiful riverside scenery of the magnificent Murray River, Australia's finest river.

Experience the sights and the sounds of indigenous birds and wildlife including the occasional platypus.
