About studying Theology at Charles Sturt University

Whether you are interested in studying ministry or simply seeking greater understanding of faith and practice, CSU offers a unique experience in combining your studies with opportunities for exploration of Christian vocation and ministry.

CSU’s School of Theology has developed a vigorous research focus and is committed to fostering a scholarly theological community that engages with contemporary society. Our outlook and ethos is ecumenical with Faculty staff being drawn from a variety of Christian traditions.

Contemporary theology is a very broad field of study. Although traditional paths into ordination and church ministry are supported by tertiary study, theology today is very much concerned with human life in the public domain, with interests branching into many spheres of human endeavour. Graduates can find placement in institutions as diverse as hospitals, schools, churches, charities, community organisations, shelters and universities.

Theological studies can be combined with study in other disciplines, including philosophy, history, education and social work. The latter includes subjects in counselling, ethics, social analysis and ministry, as well as the opportunity to undertake supervised field placements. In this way we aim to offer courses that can combine the best in theological theory and practice.

Theology is a highly vocational field in which your interests can drive your studies. Whether you have an academic interest in theology, or want to pursue mission and ministry, 21st Century theology is worth a closer look.
