Frequently asked questions funding and scholarships

The application deadlines for CSU Global funding varies according to the type of program you are participating in:

Group ticketed Short-Term Programs (STP)

You are not required to formally apply for a Vice Chancellor's Travel Grant. The value of the grant will be deducted from the program fee.

Individual programs

If you have organised your own overseas program (this could be a workplace learning placement, conference participation or internship) you are required to submit your Vice Chancellor Travel Grant application with your supporting documents (see documentation details) at least 2 weeks prior to your departure date.

Exchange program

When you apply for the Student Exchange Program you are automatically considered for a $1500 Travel Grant or an Australian Government Scholarship. Application deadlines for exchange are:

• July 1 for session 1 exchange the following year.
• Dec 1 for session 2 exchange the following year.

What documentation do you require?

The documentation required varies according to the type of program you are participating in.

Group ticketed Short-Term Programs (STP)

There is no additional Vice Chancellor Travel Grant application required.

Individual programs

You are required to provide:

• Written confirmation from your Course Coordinator that you will be receiving credit for your participation in this program
• An official itinerary - showing payment of airfares and information on your flights, including dates (from the date you depart Australia to the date you return).
• Certificate of insurance - showing payment of insurance and information on your coverage, including dates (from the date you depart Australia to the date you return).
• A copy of your current passport
• A completed CSU Global Funding application

Exchange program

Once you have been formally accepted into the Student Exchange program you will be asked to provide:

• An official itinerary - showing payment of airfares and information on your flights, including dates (from the date you depart Australia to the date you return).
• Certificate of insurance - showing payment of insurance and information on your coverage, including dates (from the date you depart Australia to the date you return).
• A completed CSU Global Funding application

How do I know if I'm eligible?

The eligibility for funding varies according to the type of program you are participating in.

Group ticketed Short-Term Programs (STP)

• You must be receiving credit for your participation in a STP
• You must be a Charles Sturt University Student (this includes Study Centre) enrolled in an undergraduate degree
• If you are an international student you must not be returning to your country of residence
• If you are an international student you must abide by the conditions of your visa
• You must agree to the terms and conditions of the STP

Individual programs

• You must be receiving credit for your program
• You must be a Charles Sturt University Student (this includes Study Centre) enrolled in an undergraduate degree
• If you are an international student you must not be returning to your country of residence
• If you are an international student you would must abide by the conditions of your visa
• You must agree to the terms and conditions of the Vice Chancellor Travel Grant Funding application

Exchange program

• You must be receiving credit for your participation in the exchange program
• You must be a Charles Sturt University Student (this includes Study Centre) enrolled in an undergraduate degree
• If you are an international student you must not be returning to your country of residence
• If you are an international student you must abide by the conditions of your visa
• You must agree to the terms and conditions of the exchange program
• The Australian Government Scholarship is only awarded to domestic students who apply for a specific (as nominated by CSU Global) university or country. Destinations will vary from year to year.

How will I receive my payment?

Your Vice Chancellor Travel Grant or Australian Government Scholarship will be paid directly into your bank account as per the details you have registered through student.csu

If you are participating in a Group Ticketed STP you will not receive the Vice Chancellor’s Travel Grant. The value will be deducted from the program fee.

When will I receive my payment? 

Payment will not be made until all the required documentation - see how to apply section - is received by CSU Global. The Travel Grant is intended to reimburse pre-departure costs and/or fund expenses whilst overseas.

What can I spend my funding on?

The Vice Chancellor Travel Grant or Australian Government Scholarship is designed to assist you with the costs associated with your overseas program. However, you are not required to show evidence of how you spend your funding.

How many scholarships/travel grants can I apply for?

You can only apply for one travel grant/scholarship per program. If you participate in more than one program you can re-apply for funding.

Exchange Program applicants will receive either the Australian Government Scholarships or a Vice Chancellor Travel Grant. Not both.

What are my responsibilities if awarded funding?

Being involved in an international study program is an amazing and fulfilling opportunity. In return we ask that you share this experience with others and encourage your peers to explore these life changing opportunities also!

You will be required to nominate a number of activities/tasks you will undertake to promote CSU Global to the wider community:

• Assist at information sessions/lectures as designated by the CSU Global Promotional Assistant - Create a 5 minute presentation of your international experience presentation for promotional purposes. This can be PowerPoint /pod cast /video or other medium
• Provide photographs of your trip to CSU Global for use in promotional and marketing items
• Submit an article about your experience to internal and external media groups
• Speak to internal and external media for interview purposes
• Assist the International Student Club to organise and run one activity
• Publish a blog whilst undertaking your overseas experience
• Post photos and/or updates through various CSU Global social media pages

You will also be required to sign a media release allowing your photos and images of you to be used for promotional and marketing purposes.

Your commitment will be discussed in your pre-departure session before you embark on your program.

How will I know if my funding application has been successful?

You will be notified via email if your funding application has been successful. Group ticketed STP participants will not receive notification as the value of the travel grant is not awarded directly to students.

Do I have to be a full-time student?

No. Part-time students (on campus or distance education) can apply for funding.
