CSU Excellence Scholarship

Based on a combination of academic merit with an ATAR of 95 and above (inclusive of Regional Bonus) and evidence of leadership and citizenship within the community


Am I Eligible?

To apply, you must:

  1. have a ATAR of 95 (inclusive of the Regional Bonus) or above or the equivalent
  2. be an Australian Citizen, or a permanent Australian Resident or the holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa
  3. be commencing study (first year) in your first undergraduate degree
  4. be enrolled as a full-time student
    (if you are studying part-time you may be eligible if you have extenuating circumstances preventing fulltime enrolment)
  5. be enrolled as an internal (on campus) student in the majority of units of study that form part of the course
  6. not be in receipt of any other scholarships to the value of $7500 or more per annum
  7. provide a summary statement of evidence of leadership and community involvement

Ongoing Eligibility Requirements

To receive the next sessions and subsequent scholarship payments, recipients must:

  • maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 and above
  • continue to meet enrolment eligibility criteria

What is an ATAR?

  The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank. The ATAR is a rank that allows the comparison of students who have completed different combinations of HSC courses.  It is calculated solely for use by institutions to rank and select school leavers for admission to tertiary courses and by CSU to determine eligibility for our merit scholarships. Other selection criteria is also used together with the ATAR for Scholarship assessment.

How do I hear about my application outcome?

You will receive an outcome notice by email by 31 Jan 2013

What happens if I am successful?

  • if you are successful in your application for the scholarship, payments will occur via electronic funds transfer (EFT) payable at half the annual scholarship value in each of the selected sessions
  • Payment is usually made within 3-4 weeks after Census Date each Session
  • Your offer letter will include instructions on how to accept your scholarship online
  • Bank details can be entered or updated online.  It is up to individual students to manage their bank details with the University.

What type of Information do I need to provide to demonstrate my leadership skills and community involvement?

  • Letters or references from your Community and/or School supporting your involvement, plus leadership skills involved in these activities.
  • Certificates, letters of participation
  • A resume
  • A statement from you outlining and demonstrating your Community involvement and Leadership Skills

What is Community Involvement?

  • This can be involvement in your local or wider Community, i.e. charities, scouts, volunteering with different organisations; and/or
  • Involvement in activities at your School, i.e. leading or organizing projects and activities at school, team/school captains, team involvement, school committee’s; and/or
  • Leadership skills can be demonstrated with involvement in the above, etc.

How Many times can I suspend my Scholarship?

  • As an enrolled CSU student, if you take an approved Leave of Absence from your course, you can suspend your scholarship for a maximum of 2 sessions and it is automatically re-activated next session.
  • If you defer your course offer, you will need to reapply for the Scholarship again.

How to Apply

You need copies* of the following documents before you begin the application process

  • You need to provide supporting documents* to demonstrate your community involvement and leadership skills
  • Evidence of your ATAR is NOT required.

*You must provide scanned copies to be uploaded and submitted with your application. Documents can be provided in PDF, JPG, DOC or TIFF format.
