CSU Science Scholarship

A helping hand to start your career in science by providing financial assistance for up to four years. Awarded on merit and for students who have an ATAR of 80 or above (inclusive or Regional Bonus), or non Year 12 leavers who can demonstrate high level attainment in other studies, achievements and/or work experience.


Am I Eligible?

To apply, you must:

  1. be an Australian citizen, permanent Australian resident or holder of a humanitarian visa
  2. receive an ATAR of 80 or above - inclusive of the regional bonus (school leavers)
    OR
    demonstrate high level attainment in other studies, achievements and/or work experience (non-school leavers)

    • Bachelor of Agriculture Science (Integrated Honours)
    • Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks Recreation and Heritage)
    • Bachelor of Clinical Science
    • Bachelor of Computer Science
    • Bachelor of Computer Science (Games Technology)
    • Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management
    • Bachelor of Equine Science
    • Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology
    • Bachelor of Medical Science (and specialisations)
    • Bachelor of Medical Science / Bachelor of Forensic Biotechnology

  3. be a commencing student enrolled in an eligible Science Scholarship course:
  4. be enrolled fulltime (24 subject points or more per session) in your first undergraduate degree, by on campus (internal) mode
  5. not be in receipt of other scholarships to the value of $7500 or more

Ongoing Eligibility Requirements

At the Census Date of each session, scholarship recipients must be:

  1. enrolled as at point 4 and 5 above
  2. maintain a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.0 and above to receive your 2 session and subsequent scholarship payments

What is an ATAR?

The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank. The ATAR is a rank that allows the comparison of students who have completed different combinations of HSC courses.  It is calculated solely for use by institutions to rank and select school leavers for admission to tertiary courses and by CSU to determine eligibility for our merit scholarships. Other selection criteria is also used together with the ATAR for Scholarship assessment.

I don't have an ATAR. What do I do?

We do consider applications from students who have not completed Year 12 or received an ATAR. An application will be considered for students who can demonstrate high level attainment in other studies, i.e. a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 and above, plus other achievements and/or work experience.

I commenced my course mid year last year. Can I apply for this scholarship in 2013?

Yes, you can apply for the CSU Science scholarship 2013 allocation. 

What if I missed the first round applications which close in December?

A 2nd round of applications will open on 15 December 2012 and you should submit an application to be considered in the 2nd round of offers.

What if I am a continuing CSU Science Scholarship recipient and my course is no longer listed?

As the eligible courses can change each year, the comprehensive list of eligible courses is in the CSU Science Scholarship Guidelines for each year of enrollment. Therefore, while you are not enrolled in a 2013 eligible course, you are still eligible for the scholarship on previous course criteria.

How do I hear about my application outcome?

You will receive an outcome notice by email by 5 Aug 2013

What happens if I am successful?

  • if you are successful in your application for the scholarship, payments will occur via electronic funds transfer (EFT) payable at half the annual scholarship value in each of the selected sessions
  • Payment is usually made within 3-4 weeks after Census Date each Session
  • Your offer letter will include instructions on how to accept your scholarship online
  • Bank details can be entered or updated online.  It is up to individual students to manage their bank details with the University.

How Many times can I suspend my Scholarship?

  • As an enrolled CSU student, if you take an approved Leave of Absence from your course, you can suspend your scholarship for a maximum of 2 sessions and it is automatically re-activated next session.
  • But if you defer your course offer, you will need to reapply for the Scholarship again.

How do I receive and accept my offer?

All Provisional Scholarship Offers will be send progressively during January/February 2013 by email and the offer will be an online acceptance.

The Scholarship Offer is confirmed on your enrollment in first session 2013.

Your Offer Letter will outline what you have to do to accept.


How to Apply

If you a non-school leaver you need to provide supporting documents* to demonstrate high level attainment in other studies, achievements and/or work experience.

If you are a school leaver, evidence of your ATAR is NOT required.

*You must provide scanned copies to be uploaded and submitted with your application. Documents can be provided in PDF, JPG, DOC or TIFF format.
