CSU recognises that unforeseen adverse or emergency events can occur for students. To assist students who suffer such events, CSU offers the Emergency Equity Grant (EEG)
Am I Eligible?
To apply, you must:
- be enrolled as an active student
- be an Australian citizen Australian Permanent resident or the holder of an Australian Humanitarian Visa ?
- be enrolled as a Commonwealth supported student (HECS-HELP)
- be able to demonstrate low income (receive a means tested Centrelink benefit or evidence of low income)
- have experienced an adverse event that was beyond your control
- be able to document the event and provide a letter of support from a responsible person
Guidelines
- The EEG is a cash grant and is designed for those who are affected by individual disasters outside their personal control and excluding widespread ongoing disasters that affect large numbers of people and so are covered by Centrelink benefits (see Centrelink listing of Active and Closed Emergency Events).
- A cash grant of up to $500 will be considered.
- Applications for grants will normally only be considered up to 3 weeks following the event, however individual circumstances will be considered.
- The payment may be retrospective to the expense occurred e.g. travel, replacement of computer or text books

Is the EEG a loan?
No. CSU provides the grant to help get you back on your feet.
What constitutes an emergency?
Events must be unforseen and beyond the control of the student. The event must be supported by documentation e.g. police report, health professional report etc. Events may include:
- Accidents
- Fire or flood damage
- Bush fires
- Natural disasters
- Theft
- Unexpected health problems with self or family member, or death in the immediate family
What if I didn't receive the email receipt?
- It might take up to 24 hours for your email receipt to come through.
- Have you checked your spam or junk mail folder?
- Did you provide the correct email address?
If you still haven't received the receipt after 24 hours, send an email to scholarships.officer@csu.edu.au, quoting the submission number (if you got one), your name and DOB.
How will I know if I am successful?
You will receive a notice of the outcome of your application
What if I am successful?
Your EEG Payment will be made via electronic fund transfer to your nominated Bank account, to register your bank details with CSU, you will need to log into the Student Administration website and launch admin online to enter or change bank details.
How to Apply
You need copies* of the following documents before you begin the application process
If you receive a means-tested Centrelink benefit
- Your current Centrelink Income Statement
If you are claiming low income (but are not receiving a Centrelink benefit)
- Health Care Card (if you have one)
- Most recent Australian Tax Office Notice of Assessment
- Most recent payslip including Year To Date earnings
*You must provide scanned copies to be uploaded and submitted with your application. Documents can be in PDF, JPG, DOC or TIFF format.
