Provides financial assistance to eligible 1st year, undergraduate, Commonwealth supported students to purchase computer equipment and/or broadband internet so that they are not disadvantaged in their studies by not having access to online connectivity
Am I Eligible?
To be eligible to apply, you must be:
- currently enrolled as an active commencing or first year undergraduate student in your first undergraduate degree at CSU; and
- commonwealth supported (HECS) student; and
- receiving a means-tested Centrelink Income Payment; or
- have low socio-economic circumstances (financial hardship/low income); and
- an Australian citizen; or a permanent resident; or the holder of a humanitarian visa.
2012 Guidelines
1. General
The Technology Equity Grant will provide financial assistance to eligible commencing or first year students in the purchase of computer equipment and broadband internet support, so that they are not disadvantaged in their studies by not having access to online connectivity.
2. Assistance provided
- Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to $500, paid to their student account by electronic funds transfer.
- Applicants would normally be limited to one application during their enrolment at CSU.
3. Eligibility
- Applicant must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate, commencing or first year commonwealth supported (HECS) student at CSU.
- Applicants must be receiving a means tested Centrelink Payment and provide a current copy of the Centrelink Income Statement.
- If not in receipt of Centrelink Benefits, applicants can still apply if they have low socioeconomic circumstances and must provide proof of low income status by providing payslips, ATO Notice of Assessment and other pertinent information.
- Applicant must be an Australian citizen; or a permanent resident; or a holder of a Humanitarian Visa.
4. Criteria for award of assistance
- Applicants must meet the Eligibility Criteria.
- Provide an advertisement/quote/invoice from a certified supplier attached to their application, showing clearly their intended Computer Equipment purchase or the equipment purchased. The computer equipment purchased must not be subject to finance. Computer equipment can be, computer, laptop, ipad, keyboard, printer, screens, etc.
- Applicants must provide a quote/invoice from a certified broadband internet provider to their application, showing clearly their broadband internet provider, broadband plan and billing account details.
- If not already provided, successful applicants will be required to remit their computer equipment and broadband receipts within 7 days upon receiving the Technology Grant.
- CSU reserves the right to charge the students account the total of the grant allocated if a receipt of purchase is not remitted within 7 days, if a student leaves the University prior to HECS Census date, or if a student is no longer deemed eligible.
5. The fine print
- Applicants would normally be limited to one application during their enrolment at CSU
- Grants are not intended to provide an alternative to other forms of income support
- You may be assessed as eligible but may not receive a grant if the quota has been exhausted
- Successful applicants agree to provide feedback and for it to be used for promotional purposes (no names will be used)

- if not already purchased, purchase the computer equipment and/or broadband service as shown on the quote/advertisement provided; and
- if not provided with your application, send your computer equipment and/or broadband receipts within 7 days upon receiving the Technology Grant^
^CSU reserves the right to charge the students account the total of the grant allocated if a receipt of purchase is not remitted within 7 days, if a student leaves the University prior to HECS Census date, or if a student is no longer deemed eligible
How to Apply
To apply you will need:
- to have your required documents scanned and ready to attach to your application; and these documents should be
- a quote or advertisement of intended purchase or if already purchased an invoice from supplier, showing clearly the Computer Equipment purchased.
The computer equipment purchased must not be subject to finance and does not include software costs; and/or - a quote/invoice from a certified broadband internet provider, showing clearly your broadband internet provider, broadband plan and billing account details; and
- A current copy of your current Centrelink Income Statement;
- or if not on a Centrelink Benefits, other documents showing your low socio-economic status, such as ATO Notice of assessment, payslips, copy of Health Care Card as well as similar documents for those persons who may also be supporting you.
