CSU's Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy offers a dedicated focus on delivery of language, literacy and numeracy teaching and support in adult education in TAFE institutes, adult and community education providers, industry settings and private providers.
CSU's Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy provides students with skills to teach in a range of discrete and integrated adult language, literacy and numeracy programs within the adult and vocational education sector including TAFE, other registered training organisations, community colleges and industry. Adult language, literacy and numeracy courses are studied by a diverse range of students in a variety of locations. All students have one thing in common – the desire for a program that provides material that will help them in their current workplace or a future position, and will equip them with the expertise they require to be effective adult language, literacy and numeracy teachers.
Students will gain skills in teaching and learning, assessment and evaluation of adult language, literacy and numeracy training programs. They will develop an understanding of the broad socio-economic and political context in which adult and vocational education is located and an awareness of the value of lifelong learning. Graduates have the ability to analyse and think critically and constructively about current developments in adult language, literacy and numeracy education. They have expertise in communication in face-to-face and digital teaching and learning environments, including mastery of appropriate technologies, and research skills that enhance professional and workplace practice.
This course is offered by distance education, providing students with the flexibility to study at a time and place that suits their lifestyle, with access to a wide range of learning materials, support and communication tools online. Students may choose to exit this course after the completion of four 8 point subjects with the Graduate Certificate in Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy.
To graduate from CSU’s Graduate Diploma of Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy, students must complete 64 subject points (eight core subjects). To exit with the Graduate Certificate in Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy, students must complete 32 subject points (three core subjects and one elective subject).
For each 8 point subject at CSU, students should normally expect to spend between 140-160 hours engaged in the specified learning and assessment activities (such as attending lectures or residential schools, assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, assignments or examinations). The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design.
Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.
Where applicable, students are responsible for travel and accommodation costs involved in workplace learning experiences, or attending residential schools (distance education students).
Expectations relating to academic, workplace learning, time and cost requirements for specific subjects are provided in the subject abstracts and in course materials.
