Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic)
What is this course about?
CSU's Graduate Diploma of Clinical Practice (Paramedic) is designed to provide students with the necessary knowledge, skills and values to be prepared for practice as paramedics.
The course provides nurses with the opportunity to make a successful transition to paramedic practice by producing graduates capable of:
- becoming reflective practitioners who can analyse complex problems and implement a plan of action that is clinically, ethically and logistically sound
- developing a sound knowledge base in order to support the clinical decision-making process
- demonstrating positive, caring attitudes towards clients and the members of the community
- operating as an effective member of a multidisciplinary health care team.
Students will learn how to:
- identify and manage the physical, psychological and psychosocial needs of a patient undergoing paramedical assessment, treatment and/or transport
- examine and critically analyse current developments in paramedic practice, including the professionalisation of the discipline
- demonstrate professional skills, techniques and knowledge for safe, efficient and effective use of appropriate medications and the operation of medical equipment, technology and procedures in a paramedic environment
- develop the necessary skills to critically evaluate published research to determine its relevance to paramedic practice.
Your course is recognised by industry
This course has received provisional accreditation with the Australiasian Council of Ambulance Authorities Inc. Full accreditation will be sought after the first cohort of graduates have at least 12 months of practice experience following graduation.
Residential schools
Students attend a compulsory five-day residential school.

* Internships must be completed in an approved out-of-hospital setting such as a statutory ambulance authority. Students undertaking the internships must satisfy the risk assessment requirements of the relevant ambulance authority.

Admission requirements
To apply for this course, students must hold a Bachelor degree in nursing (or equivalent) and be registered to practice. Some experience in the emergency health field is recommended. Applicants should also be aware that in order to undertake workplace learning they will be required to comply with the risk management policies and procedures of the host ambulance authority. Students must also be able to attend a five-day residential school associated with preparation for internship.
English language proficiency
The University has minimum requirements for English language proficiency prior to entry to our courses. Some courses also have a requirement for a higher entry or exit level of English proficiency. More information on English language requirements.

Students enrolled in Information Technology subjects (i.e. with an ITC subject code) may be required to have additional hardware and/or software that is deemed essential for the completion of the learning activities in that subject.
