About the course
The Graduate Certificate in Communication (Defence) is a restricted entry program is available to, and has been specifically designed for, serving members of the Australian Defence Forces (ADF).
The proposed program aims to:
- provide a structured education program of relevance to public affair practitioners in the defence forces
- formally evaluate performance against key competency standards, and
- provide a credible, internationally recognised professional standard
- for career development and assessment of all ADF public relations (PR) staff
This program is designed to ensure the Defence Forces' PR officers are trained, competent and employing industry best practice.
The specific course objectives are to provide graduates, against a military background, with:
- knowledge of a variety of theoretical frameworks and their underlying assumption which inform contemporary professional practice
- intellectual development and analytical and problem solving skills
- wider perspectives of media communication practice
- a comprehensive understanding of current debates and issues including relationships with other professional communication practice
- the capacity to drive future directions and changes within these areas
- awareness of the critical importance of lifelong learning and new thought supporting their professional careers and their personal development
- industry best practice standards of operation and knowledge
