CSU’s Master of Dispute Resolution provides students with an understanding of the causes of conflict and the availability and suitability of various methods of dispute prevention and resolution. Students learn the principles and skills of mediation and conflict management and will be able to apply these skills in public and private disputes.

About the course

The Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution examines principles of conflict management, dispute resolution, systems design and methods of dispute resolution within and outside the traditional legal system.

During the Graduate Diploma of Dispute Resolution, students will further investigate legal studies and understanding violence in society, as well as gain an appreciation of additional methods of resolution of the differences that cause conflict in a variety of settings.

The Master of Dispute Resolution provides a framework of specialist areas so that graduates will have knowledge and understanding of the causes of conflict and the process of dispute resolution applicable to their workplace settings.

The Dispute Resolution program is designed for people engaged in a wide range of business professions, public service, human services and voluntary occupations who desire a knowledge of theories of conflict and methods of conflict resolution.

The knowledge of the theory, methods and skills of dispute resolution, together with the processes of negotiation and mediation, will equip students to resolve disputes in a broad range of commercial and non-commercial careers and occupations.

Credit

In addition to the articulated program, students of the Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution, students may apply for credit towards Charles Sturt University’s MBA, Master of Human Resource Management or the Master of Business.

Residential school

There is a compulsory three-day residential school for LAW517.

Graduation requirements

Students must satisfactorily complete 32 points (four subjects) to be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution.

Students will graduate from the Graduate Diploma in Dispute Resolution on completion of 64 points (eight subjects).

To graduate from the Master of Dispute Resolution, students must successfully complete 96 points.
