The School of Information Studies is expanding the scope of all of its courses in 2010 to reflect the critical importance of information and knowledge management across the broadest range of institutions. This course is suspended and will be phased out, but please refer to the Master of Information Studies, which offers an Information Architecture specialisation. Prospective students should contact info.csu for further information.
Continuing students should consult the Handbook in the year of their enrolment.
These Information Architecture courses aim to equip graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to implement successful information architecture, developing the necessary expertise in the areas of information management and information technology.
By coursework
About the course
Students may choose any four Stage one subjects to be eligible for the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Architecture. If they elect to take the other four Stage one subjects, students will be able to graduate with the Postgraduate Diploma of Information Architecture.
Diploma graduates will have learnt how to:
- identify, integrate and manage structured and unstructured information of value to organisations and their clients
- evaluate and utilise a wide range of information management applications
- optimise access to online content through the construction and design of metadata, taxonomies, and effective user interfaces
- understand the processes involved in managing information architecture projects.
Students who choose to continue and complete the four Stage two subjects will be eligible for the Master of Information Architecture.
Master graduates will be able to:
- perform an information audit for an organisation
- apply computing and information architecture skills to create or improve a particular online information system.
Articulation
The Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma are exit point only courses within the Master degree.
Applicants must complete the Postgraduate Diploma of Information Architecture before they can continue on to the Master of Information Architecture.
Credit
Applicants may be awarded credit for previous study and/or previous experience in the area. The maximum credit that would be awarded is 48 points.
Graduation requirements
To exit with the Postgraduate Certificate in Information Architecture, students must satisfactorily complete 32 points. To exit with the Postgraduate Diploma Information Architecture, students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.
To graduate from the Master of Information Architecture, students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.
