Master of Information Technology

What is this course about?

CSU's Master of Information Technology (MIT) has been designed to cater for those who wish to gain a qualification that will allow them to pursue an IT career, and practising Information Technology professionals looking to further develop their level of expertise in specific and cutting edge areas of the profession.

In our increasingly competitive information technology market, employers put greater value on education than ever before. The Master of Information Technology provides advanced training in Information technology for applicants from IT or non-IT backgrounds. The course is available by distance education through Wagga Wagga Campus, or on campus at CSU Study Centres in Sydney and Melbourne.

Graduate Diploma of Information Technology

The Graduate Diploma articulates with the Masters degree and full credit is awarded in the Master degree for successful completion of Graduate Diploma subjects.

The Graduate Diploma consists of an Information Technology core comprising four subjects and four Information Technology electives.

Master of Information Technology (12 subjects)

This course is designed for those who currently work in the industry but have no formal qualification, and for those with tertiary qualifications in another discipline but who wish to gain a qualification that will allow them to pursue an IT career.

The course is also designed to meet the needs of practising information technology professionals. For those without an undergraduate degree, entry is through the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology.

The 12 subject Master degree consists of four core and four elective subjects and either

  •  four subjects from the same specialisation. This will allow graduation with a particular specialisation - e.g., Master of   Information Technology (Network Security); or
  •
  • four subjects across specialisations. This will allow graduation with a generic Master of Information Technology

Master of Information Technology (16 subjects)

This course is designed for those who currently work in the industry but have no formal qualification and those with tertiary qualifications in another discipline and little information technology background but who wish to gain a qualification that will allow them to pursue an IT career.

The16 subject Master degree consists of the Graduate Diploma of Information Technology as set out above and

  •  four elective subjects from the list of restricted electives; and
  •
  • four subjects from the same specialisation. This will allow graduation with a particular specialisation - e.g., Master of Information Technology (Network Security) OR four subjects across specialisations. This will allow graduation with a generic Master of Information Technology

Study at CSU Study Centres

The Master of Information Technology course is available through CSU Study Centres in Sydney and Melbourne for domestic and international students.

The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design.

Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.

Where applicable, students are responsible for travel and accommodation costs involved in workplace learning experiences, or attending residential schools (distance education students).

Expectations relating to academic, workplace learning, time and cost requirements for specific subjects are provided in the subject abstracts and in course materials.

Why study this degree?
