What is this course about?
CSU's Master of International Education (School Leadership) blends theory and practice and challenges educational leaders to bring a global perspective to address issues confronting them in their professional settings.
The Master of International Education (School Leadership) has been designed for practicing educators wishing to enhance their leadership capacity within their professional setting. Graduates of this course bring a global perspective to teaching, learning and leading their educational organisation. They will be more capable to strengthen learning outcomes in their current professional setting and more confident to explore other contexts within which to practice. The course brings an international focus to local circumstances within educational organisations by:

exploring school leadership issues through critical and in-depth reflection of theory, international experience and practice

bringing findings from academic study and field experience to the systematic analysis of educational issues important to successful learning in schools and other educational and training organisations at the local level

applying theoretical, intellectual and methodological tools to investigate local and global events and their impact on learning and education.
The course is recognised by international credentialing agencies. It responds to the professional needs of educators to anticipate issues, analyse responses from local and global perspectives and implement strategies which are principled, prudent and practical.

CSU's Master of International Education (School Leadership) assists you in achieving your career goals whilst building your confidence and capacity as a global leader in the education professions. It consists of core subjects, which focus on international education leadership, perspectives and international educational research, and a wide range of elective subjects. The electives enable you to pursue your professional objectives or engage in your desired research orientation which can also lead into further study at the doctorate level. The course is structured to allow streamlined articulation of these core and elective subjects. This provides purposeful continuity between your academic, project and research interests ensuring the course has a high level of relevance to your individual career.
Recognises your prior learning
Relevant and certified professional learning will be considered for prior learning credit at the time of admission and as you progress through the program. You can receive credit for up to five of the ten subjects required for graduation which can significantly reduce the time and cost associated with your overall study commitment.

Progression through this degree can be adapted to your personal study schedule. From anywhere in the world, you can customise your participation; study from home, at work and at times that suit you and your lifestyle. CSU provides a high level of support through our collaborative online environment which facilitates efficient, responsive exchange with instructors and with your classmates, as well as providing access to learning resources and the full range of CSU online student services.
While this program is administered through CSU in Ontario, individual courses may be delivered online through the Schools of Education in Ontario, or Bathurst or Wagga Wagga in Australia, giving you a truly international perspective.
Academic expectations
For each 8 point subject at CSU, students should normally expect to spend between 140-160 hours engaged in the specified learning and assessment activities (such as attending lectures or residential schools, assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, assignments or examinations). The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design.
Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.
Where applicable, students are responsible for travel and accommodation costs involved in workplace learning experiences, or attending residential schools (distance education students).
Expectations relating to academic, workplace learning, time and cost requirements for specific subjects are provided in the subject abstracts and in course materials.

Course Structure*
The course consists of 80 subject points. All subjects listed are 8 credit points unless otherwise stated.
A maximum of 40 subject points can be granted as credit for prior learning. Credit granted is normally at Level 5 but can comprise up to a maximum of 16 subject points at Level 4.

- All students (except Ontario Canadian students) must complete EEP511 International Perspectives in Education in order to graduate with the Master of International Education (School Leadership).
- All Ontario Canadian students must complete the Principal’s Qualification Program in order to graduate with the Master of International Education (School Leadership).
- Under agreements between Charles Sturt University, the Ontario Principal’s Council (OPC) and the Catholic Principal’s Council of Ontario (CPCO):

Ontario Canadian students completing the Principal’s Qualification Program 1 and 2 (Masters Dimension) will receive credit for ESA510 School Leadership 1 and ESA511 School Leadership 2. (No other students can enrol in or receive credit for ESA511 School Leadership 2).
- Ontario Canadian students completing the Principal’s Qualification Program 1 and 2 (Standard Dimension) will receive credit for ESA511 School Leadership 2 and must complete ESA510 School Leadership 1.
- Ontario Canadian students completing the Leading Educators Across the Planet program (LEAP) will receive credit for EEP511 International Perspectives in Education.
- Ontario Canadian students completing the Experienced Principal’s Development Course (EPDC) will receive credit for ESA509 Advanced School Leadership.
- Additional credit packages for elective subjects at Level 4 and Level 5 are indicated in the credit section.

Enrolment pattern
It is not possible to specify an enrolment pattern for this course. All subjects can be studied in the session chosen by the student, this choice is dependent on subjects being available in a particular session and enrolment restrictions.
Admission requirements
In order to apply for the Master of International Education (School Leadership), students must meet or exceed the following qualifications:
- hold a Bachelor of Education from CSU or another recognised tertiary institution
or - be a graduate from a Bachelor degree from a recognised university and hold a Graduate Diploma of Education, Postgraduate Certificate of Education, Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) or equivalent.
Internet access
CSU places great emphasis on services to its students. It is a leader in the provision of online services and, in particular, the use of the internet in the support of teaching, administration and communications with students.
The online environment is so integrated into all aspects of student life and the learning experience at CSU that the University now assumes that all on campus and distance education students at CSU will have ongoing access to an internet connected computer capable of communicating with CSU online systems.
Students enrolled in Information Technology subjects (i.e. with an ITC subject code) may be required to have additional hardware and/or software that is deemed essential for the completion of the learning activities in that subject.
