The School of Information Studies is expanding the scope of all of its courses in 2010 to reflect the critical importance of information and knowledge management across the broadest range of institutions. This course is therefore under review so the course structure may change from 2010. Please refer to this page during 2009 for updates on changes to the structure.

CSU’s Applied Science (Library and Information Management) program is recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) as providing an in-depth knowledge of the current status of developments in library science and information management. The Graduate Diploma meets ALIA requirements for a first professional qualification.

About the course

Early exit is available with completion of the Graduate Diploma (Stage one) which is recognised as a first professional qualification in library and information science by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Qualified information professionals may receive substantial credit for previous study (see Admission requirements).

This program is designed to help you develop skills and aptitudes that will increase your attractiveness to academic, government and industrial sector employers; improve the performance and productivity of your employer through the application of your subject specialisation and management skills; and improve your career prospects. The course has two intakes a year - February and July, but the July intake may not include Commonwealth supported places.

In order to satisfy the requirements of this course students are required to complete one professional study visit (four days) and a three-week professional placement.

Please note: Additional places to those offered under Commonwealth support are available to distance education students on a full fee paying basis.
