Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education
GradCertSecEd

Charles Sturt University’s Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education is designed to further develop teaching expertise and qualifications in specific subject areas in the secondary school sector.

About the course

There are two aims associated with the course:

The first aim is to provide a postgraduate program offering candidates enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling) the opportunity to complete a second high school specialisation in either:

or, in the case of candidates with English or mathematics as their high school area, the opportunity to undertake further subjects in their chosen subject area.

A second aim of the program is to offer a graduate certificate qualification for existing secondary teachers only. This award provides the opportunity for secondary teachers to commence further study in another teaching area beyond present qualifications held. (Note: This award does not provide complete retraining qualifications for an additional teaching area. Inquiries relating to such a pathway of study should be referred to the Course Coordinator).

Professional recognition

For those concurrently enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling), accredition will be sought with the NSW Institute of Teachers as part of the accreditation process. For existing secondary school teachers this course enables additional study to be undertaken in a specific content area, but it is not a retraining program and therefore will not have independent accreditation sought with the NSW Institute of Teachers.

Residential schools

There are no residential schools associated with this course.
