Graduate Diploma of Sports Management (Sports Law)
The specific goal of the program is to provide the cohort of participants who are either currently in, or are preparing for a career in the sports industry with the core knowledge and skills required to read, understand, apply and make legally informed decisions about issues arising in the context of sport.
The course aims to link the issues that are prevalent in the contemporary sports profession with an understanding of the relevant areas of law. The key areas involved revolve around contractual issues in sports, issues of negligence and liability and other provisions enunciated under common and statute law which closely pertain to sport. Part of each subject will be looking at a prevalent legal area such as; torts, negligence, criminal law, trade practices law, contract, interpretation of statutes and legal research. These areas are then developed with specific reference to the sporting context and case law in which they are found. This education design means that students are skilled in the current law as it relates to sports but are also skilled at finding, reading and interpreting new law.
The Graduate Certificate in Sports Management (Sports Law) articulates with the Graduate Diploma of Sports Management (Sports Law) and credit is awarded in the Graduate Diploma for all subjects completed in the Graduate Certificate.
