Master of Terrorism and Security Studies

What is this course about?

CSU's Terrorism and Security Studies program aims to develop and increase the knowledge-base of practitioners in the fields of counterterrorism, safety and security.

Master of Terrorism and Security Studies

The primary aim of the Master of Terrorism and Security Studies is to produce graduates capable of successfully completing research that results in a distinct contribution to knowledge in the fields of counterterrorism, safety and security. Graduates should be capable of performing a range of research, policy and planning roles within their respective professional domains.

Graduate Diploma of Terrorism and Security Studies

The Graduate Diploma allows students to deepen their understanding of the specific social and political effects of both terrorist activity and counterterrorism measures. In particular, the course will enable students to critique their own professional practice in light of the impact that terrorism and counterterrorism have on key societal and political institutions and values.

Graduate Certificate in Terrorism and Security Studies

The Graduate Certificate seeks to improve professional standards by deepening students' understanding of the history and motivators of terrorism, and thereby developing their ability to critique current and anticipate future terrorist threats and possible counterterrorist measures.

Academic expectations

For each 8 point subject at CSU, students should normally expect to spend between 140-160 hours engaged in the specified learning and assessment activities (such as attending lectures or residential schools, assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, assignments or examinations). The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design.

Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.

Where applicable, students are responsible for travel and accommodation costs involved in workplace learning experiences, or attending residential schools (distance education students).

Expectations relating to academic, workplace learning, time and cost requirements for specific subjects are provided in the subject abstracts and in course materials.
