About the course

This course is an integration and upgrading of the previous courses Bachelor of Farm Management and Bachelor of Equine Business Management. The resulting new course in Agricultural Business Management has majors in:

Agribusiness
Farm Management
Equine

Where it will take you

There is a critical shortage of skilled managers in the agricultural sector. Companies such as Elders, CRT, Twynam Pastoral Company and the major banks report a lack of suitable personnel with skills in business, management and finance who also have technical agricultural training.

There is also some demand for better trained managers of family farms. The thoroughbred horse industry, which is the main employment sector in the equine area, has a high demand for managers with hands-on' skills. Occupations suitable for our graduates would include farm managers, agronomy and livestock salespersons, bank rural officers, grain, produce, fibre and livestock buyers, company and industry representatives, rural service providers, and various positions in the equine industry.

Credit

In all courses offered by the School of Rural Management , students may be granted advanced standing for one subject of unspecified credit at Level 1 for approved certificate courses which are not already taught at the University. To be granted this, an Application for Credit form must be completed and submitted to the School Liaison Officer within Student Administration. The applicant must obtain a total of 8 credit points and provide copies of the successfully completed certificates. Upon approval this can be counted as an elective subject at Level 1 students are reminded that no more than 9 Level 1 subjects can be counted towards the degree. Science Scholarships

CSU's Science Scholarships are available for on campus applicants to this course, providing $4000 per annum for up to four years (subject to satisfactory progress). Once awarded the Scholarship, the money is the student's to spend in the way that assists them most.

Applicants must achieve a University Admissions Index (UAI)(NSW) or ENTER(VIC) of 80 and above (inclusive of the Regional Bonus) to be eligible to receive the Scholarship.

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.

To graduate with an award of Bachelor of Agricultural Business Management students complete the equivalent of 24 subjects comprising nine core subjects and a major of nine to 11 subjects and elective subjects, including TAFE credit.

In addition, students who have completed the majority of their course through on campus study must also satisfactorily complete a Capability Portfolio.
