Costs of study

Student equipment and learning aids

Students will be required to have access to a number of learning aids and equipment in order to complete their studies in the Bachelor of Dental Science.

Items students must purchase and their approximate costs are:

FIRST YEAR:

  • Safety glasses    $8
  • Lab coat            $25
  • Scrub pants        $34
  • Scrub top           $40
  • Drill bur kit         $76
    *The University will provide up to three replacement burs each year
  • Frasaco model (including one set of typodont teeth) - $319
    *The University will provide up to five replacement typodont teeth each year
  • Simulation Kit (this kit contains equipment and tools that you will use for the duration of study) - $1,500

SECOND YEAR:

  • Dental lab kit      $328
  • Articulator           $1500

Students are required to purchase the articulator, which will be retained for use in practice after they graduate. The price shown is for the articulator specified in 2010, but prices may change, and a lower cost model may be available in future.

Most of these items are available through the retail store on the Orange Campus.

The University will also provide each student with a whip mix block.

Additional student purchases will be required in years 3, 4 and 5. Students will be notified as details become available.

Australian and New Zealand students

Commonwealth supported place

You will make a student contribution (formerly HECS) towards the cost of your tuition fees.

Options:

  1. Defer your payment using a HECS-HELP loan, which is repaid through the taxation system once your income reaches a certain threshold
  2. Pay your fee contribution up-front each session and receive a 10% discount
$8,388* Student fee contribution for your first year of study

* This is an indicative 2010 figure based on a standard equivalent full-time study load of eight 8 point subjects per year (64 points). Part-time and distance education students will usually study only four 8 point subjects per year (32 points).
