This course is designed to provide industry-skilled and qualified people access to pre-service teacher education and to complete a qualification in secondary mathematics teaching. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics) replaces the previously accredited Accelerated Teacher Training Program offered at CSU.
About the course
The program builds on knowledge and skills that students have previously acquired in their discipline area of mathematics. The course is designed to encourage students to develop this discipline knowledge further through University study and to apply this knowledge to the context of secondary teaching.
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:
- display an understanding of educational and curriculum issues in the area of mathematics
- plan and implement for the teaching-learning process
- develop and employ effective behaviour management strategies
- communicate and interact professionally with students, staff members, and the communities served by their school
- monitor and assess student progress and learning activities
- reflect, evaluate, and plan for continuous self-improvement
- use and develop professional knowledge and values
and
- utilise appropriate teaching/learning technologies pertinent to their field.
Articulation and credit
A credit package of 112 points will be awarded upon entry into the program.

Graduation requirements
To graduate, students must successfully complete 256 points, which includes the 112 points credit awarded on enrolment.
