Sport, exercise and fitness are all part of a wider business sphere. Sportspeople are celebrities, intensely marketed and used in advertising. Sports clothing, nutritional aids and other exercise paraphernalia are heavy demand consumer items. Fitness centres, recreational facilities, and leisure resorts demand personnel who are not only skilled in physical activity but possess business acumen and human resource management knowledge.
The Bachelor of Exercise Science / Bachelor of Business Studies acknowledges that the sport-business environment requires a wide range of skills for active and successful employment. Therefore CSU offers a diverse program to meet the emerging aspirations of all students in the business area.
The four-year double degree program provides an ideal pathway into occupations in the sport and recreation industry. Students can expect to find employment in management positions in fitness centres, recreation resorts and human resource management.
The Bachelor of Exercise Science and Bachelor of Business Studies degrees are both nationally accredited and registered tertiary awards.
Two professional practice sessions are scheduled which offer opportunities to apply knowledge and skills gained from the academic components to real-life work situations. Placements in health, corporate and community wellness, exercise science and recreation agencies bring students into direct contact with professional workers in these fields.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business Studies are entitled to credits if they have completed applicable TAFE courses within ten years of admission to the degree. Credit is normally granted for relevant Certificates and Diplomas. Overseas qualifications are considered for credit towards the Bachelor of Business Studies degree.
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 256 points (32 subjects). Upon completion of the program, students graduate with two separate awards, the Bachelor of Exercise Science and the Bachelor of Business Studies.
