CSU's Bachelor of Industry Computing breaks new ground in enabling IT students to make the most of advantages presented by the digital economy by blending distance education study with real industry experience.

About the course

The Bachelor of Industry Computing has been awarded the prestigious 'Asia/Pacific Regional Best Practice in Advancing Industry Growth through Innovation in Education' by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

The aim of this course is to position students for employment in the IT industry. This is achieved by providing a course that is current, relevant, integrates IT industry certification in these fields and then provides students with the skills and support required to gain an entry level support position within the IT industry.

The degree consists of two parts. The first phase over 12 months focuses on giving students the basic skills required to commence work at an entry level in desktop and network support. The second phase, normally completed while working in the IT industry, supports future promotion into various industry roles, including more advanced support positions, project management and networking and system administration.

The degree incorporates internationally recognised industry certificates such as Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and the A+ certificate - a popular vendor-neutral certification held by over 600,000 people.

Objectives

Upon completion of the course graduates will be able to:

work in an IT organisation at various levels including advanced IT support positions, project management and networking and system administration
demonstrate network engineering knowledge and skills
obtain industry certifications from vendors such as CompTIA, and Microsoft
use problem-solving skills and methodologies when troubleshooting network problems
analyse client business and technical requirements and select appropriate internetwork technologies and topologies
develop IT business solutions that meet customer objectives for functionality, performance and cost.

The broad range of subject material covered in the Bachelor of Industry Computing degree should give the graduate a comprehensive understanding of the discipline and appropriate professional knowledge, complemented by the ability to:

and
use modern information and communication technologies throughout the course.

Through study of ITC331 Security, Privacy and Ethics specifically and generally throughout the course, the graduate should also gain:

a commitment to continuing personal and professional development

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 192 points, which includes the completion of 80 points of relevant industry subjects.
