CSU's Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Imaging Conversion), offered by distance education, focuses on the techniques and equipment used in diagnostic radiography and in other imaging modalities, to prepare graduates for a career in this highly technical area of healthcare.
CSU's Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Imaging Conversion) course allows qualified radiographers who hold non-Australian qualifications and whose qualifications are not recognised as being an Australian three-year, full-time degree equivalent or qualified diagnostic radiographers with an academic qualification of three years full-time equivalent, for example the Diploma of Health Science (Medical Imaging) previously awarded by Charles Sturt University, or equivalent to upgrade to academic degree level.
Due to the diverse range of primary academic qualifications and experience possessed by applicants, there are three levels of entry.
The course does not include a clinical practice competence requirement.
The academic content of this course may be considered by the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR) in application for a Statement of Accreditation. Graduates may be eligible to practise in Australia providing they are able to gain the Statement of Accreditation and meet the AIR clinical practice competence requirements. Inquiries regarding this statement must be directed to the Australian Institute of Radiography.
The course is taught by dedicated professionals with many years of collective experience in clinical radiography. They are accredited radiographers, qualified physicists and sonographers.
Applicants who have completed recognised academic courses in specialist areas of Medical Imaging, in addition to their basic qualification, may seek credit for some subjects in the course.
Applicants assessed as having successfully completed a two-year, full-time equivalent, academic program (for example, Australian Associate Diploma, British DCR or equivalent). Upon admission, students are awarded a credit package of 128 points.
Applicants assessed as having an academic qualification of more than two but less than three years full-time equivalent (for example, Hong Kong PDDR, Canadian CAMRT Certification who have further completed appropriate advanced certificates and extensive ongoing CPE courses in relevant areas and/or other relevant experience). Upon admission, students are awarded a credit package of 144 points.
Applicants assessed as having an academic qualification of three years full-time equivalent (for example, Diploma of Health Science (Medical Imaging) awarded by Charles Sturt University, or an equivalent diploma from another Australian institution, British HDCR, Singapore's Nanyang Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent). Upon admission, students are awarded a credit package of 160 points.
