The course consists of 27 core education subjects, 7 high school specialist teaching subjects, 2 curriculum method subjects and 2 compulsory subjects (literacy and numeracy). As a result, students undertake a total of 38 subjects (the equivalent of 304 subject points).

Articulation

The Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling) program does not form part of the standard CSU definition of an articulated set of courses. However, for the purpose of clarity this award is concurrently offered with:

  • the Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education for those wishing to undertake a fifth year of study entitling candidates to meet the requirements of two high school teaching areas. As such, students who wish to pursue this opportunity must re-apply through the CSU Admissions Office in the fourth year of their concurrent program for the mid-year intake into the Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education.
     
  • the Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship) for those wishing to undertake a fifth year of study entitling candidates to meet the requirements of becoming a Teacher Librarian. As such, students who wish to pursue this opportunity must re-apply through the CSU Admissions Office in the third year of their concurrent program for the Year 4/Session 1 intake into the Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship).

Professional recognition

This course is accredited with the NSW Institute of Teachers until 31 December 2012. Graduates from this program will also have a qualification that is accepted by the Victorian Institute of Teaching for teacher registration.
