The Bachelor of Nursing Science is a post-Registered Nurse (RN) four-year degree designed to give qualified RNs the opportunity to update their qualifications to degree level.
About the course
As a registered nurse with a degree, you are in a good position to further your career in all areas of nursing practice, education or management. The Bachelor of Nursing Science is an investment in your future.
The four-year Bachelor degree offers:
- the advantages of distance education - flexibility of delivery means you can study in your home country at a time that suits you
- quality teaching materials that are relevant, up-to-date and meet professional and academic standards
- a wide range of subjects allowing you to pursue special interest areas such as mental health, gerontic nursing, health education or child health
- assessment and support by qualified nurse academics who are easily contacted by telephone, fax or email in Australia or Canada
- online access to extensive library and support services.
Students can choose to exit the course following completion of the first three years and graduate with the Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration), which is the equivalent of a three-year nursing degree.
Credit
Charles Sturt University frequently recognises prior learning including study at other institutions. Each request for credit is individually assessed at the time of application. If you are made an offer of a place in the course, you will be notified in the Offer of Admission of the amount of approved credit.
Credit may be offered to students who meet the following criteria:
- a Diploma of Nursing from a college or tertiary level program: 20 subjects credit leaving 12 subjects in total to be studied
- a Diploma of Nursing from a hospital based program: 16 subjects credit leaving 16 subjects in total to be studied
- tertiary subjects completed at an accredited university additional to the nursing diploma will be considered for additional credit
- professional studies, such as midwifery, additional to the nursing diploma will be considered for additional credit. These studies must be equivalent to tertiary level study in terms of length, assessment and content
- CSU's three-year Bachelor of Health Science (Nursing): additional credit within the Bachelor of Nursing Science may be approved.
Please note that the maximum credit possible is 24 subjects, as a student must complete a minimum of eight subjects to be eligible to graduate with the Bachelor of Nursing Science.
Should a student choose to exit with the Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration), then the maximum credit is 20 subjects and they must complete at least four subjects.
Graduation requirements
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 256 points including 32 points of core subjects.
To exit with the Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration), students must satisfactorily complete 192 points, including 32 points of core subjects.
Further study
If you anticipate progression to higher studies, the Bachelor of Nursing Science and Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration) offer successful graduates the option of continuing to Master and Doctoral programs at CSU.
