This course provides parks, recreation and heritage related studies aimed at the management of national parks, recreation parks, Aboriginal and historic sites, urban parks and wildlife management.

This course provides professionally-oriented management studies suitable for those working or wishing to work in national parks, recreation parks, Aboriginal and historic sites, urban parks and wildlife management.

Where it will take you

The course gives you the opportunity to work as a technical officer or field officer in a wide range of areas including parks and other protected areas. This course articulates with the Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage) which means subjects in the Associate Degree are fully recognised in the Bachelor degree. When you complete the Associate Degree you will be able to enrol in the Bachelor degree to give you a much broader range of options when you graduate.

Professionals teaching you

The course is taught by dedicated professionals with a wide range of industry experience. Staff have expertise in wildlife management, fire ecology, vegetation management, Aboriginal heritage management, recreation design and planning and landcare. They have worked as consultants and as managers within many government agencies. Several staff have also been appointed to advising bodies within agencies to address issues such as rare and threatened species management, visitor import management and the conservation of our inland waterways.

a range of field-based equipment and software relevant to undertaking field study exercises
fully-equipped laboratories.

Practical experience

In addition to the practical and field component with most subjects, an industry placement is part of the course.

Residential school

Many subjects have a compulsory residential school of two to four days duration.

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 128 points, including all residential school requirements.

Further study

Students may elect to upgrade their Associate Degree qualification to degree level by undertaking the Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage) . Associate Degree subjects will be accredited towards the degree.
