CSU's Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) / Bachelor of Business provides graduates with the skills to become effective managers and professionally responsible business people who have a sound understanding of the psychological principles of human behaviour.
This four-year course allows students to complete the requirements of the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) and one of three strands for the Bachelor of Business. Students must complete a minimum of 13 core Psychology subjects.
CSU's Bachelor of Business has a national reputation for excellence. Graduates have good prospects in a wide range of career paths in private and government organisations.
The course aims to develop critical analysis, scientific method and fundamental thinking, and prepare students to ask the right questions, search for relevant data and interpret results. Students will also develop communication skills such as rational argument, critical evaluation and effective listening and writing.
The course will help students become acquainted with the substance of business so that they can aspire to accept responsibility and learn to manage technical and organisational change. It will also provide students with skills to become effective managers, able to understand the needs of their subordinates, apply technology, and have an extensive knowledge of the political, economic and social environment.
The end result will be a depth of understanding that will help students become successful, ethical and professionally responsible business people.
Distance education students must attend compulsory residential schools for some subjects.
For each 8 point subject at CSU, students should normally expect to spend between 140-160 hours engaged in the specified learning and assessment activities (such as attending lectures or residential schools, assigned readings, tutorial assistance, individual or group research/study, forum activity, workplace learning, assignments or examinations). The student workload for some subjects may vary from these norms as a result of approved course design.
Students will be assessed on the basis of completed assignments, examinations, workplace learning, or other methods as outlined in specific subject outlines.
Where applicable, students are responsible for travel and accommodation costs involved in workplace learning experiences, or attending residential schools (distance education students).
Expectations relating to academic, workplace learning, time and cost requirements for specific subjects are provided in the subject abstracts and in course materials.
