What is this course about?

CSU's Associate Degree in Adult and Vocational Education is an entry level course that is designed to enable people with technical or vocational qualifications and experience to teach in a range of settings.

CSU's Associate Degree in Adult and Vocational Education aims to meet the professional needs of students with vocational qualifications who want to be able to teach in their discipline area in an adult learning environment or in their particular vocational setting.

It is designed for people wishing to become trainers, learning facilitators or consultants in the adult and vocational education sectors.

This course is offered by distance education, providing students with the flexibility to study at a time and place that suits their lifestyle, with access to a wide range of learning materials, support and communication tools online.

Students will develop:

  • an understanding of the broad socio-economic and political context in which adult and vocational education is located
  • an understanding of competence and competency-based education and training
  • knowledge about adults and adult learning
  • skills in teaching and training
  • the capacity to design and manage training programs delivered to adults
  • skills in the assessment of adult and vocational learning and the evaluation of such programs
  • an awareness of the value of open and lifelong education
  • a predisposition to reflect upon and to accept professional responsibility for their own continuing education
  • an understanding of Indigenous cultures, knowledge systems and values and how these impact on adult and vocational education in cross-cultural settings
  • an awareness of the ethical issues associated with the practice of adult and vocational education
  • an understanding of education for financial, social and environmental sustainability in the adult and vocational education context
  • the ability to analyse and think critically and constructively about current developments in adult education.
