“I chose to study at CSU because of its regional and national reputation. I also looked at other factors including the subject choices and study modes. I was also interested in the experience and knowledge of the lecturers and what they could bring to the subjects particularly as I wanted to apply this in my workplace and be able to convert the academic theories into practical industry experience.
“I lived about 40 minutes from the Bathurst campus and wanted a course that offered flexibility between work and study as well as allowing me to balance my caring responsibilities. The course provided self-paced learning and access to a multitude of resources. I also had the opportunity to engage with other like-minded students to develop networks, connections and friendships.
“I worked part-time at Verto for some of my study (before commencing maternity leave) as I had always had a passion to combine furthering my education whilst practicing in the workplace. Due to the nature of the course I was able to work, care for a new born child and study. I had the flexibility to determine how I studied and what study mode suited my learning style. I also had lecturers who were understanding and supportive of my needs and they would assist me when needed. This course also complimented my role at work and set me up in a position to start furthering my education and pursuit for career advancement.
“Completing this course has been the first step towards completing my Master of Business Administration (MBA) and I didn’t have to commit to completing 12 subjects. It provided the flexibility to complete four subjects from a broad range of subjects that I will be able to use as prior learning and credit when I do decide to continue onto further study once my two children are a bit older. The course has also opened my eyes to the broad spectrum of career options available, but has also confirmed that my role is the one that I enjoy the most and when I do continue with further study I will choose electives that compliment my current position.
“I received the Graham Draffin Memorial Scholarship through my employer Verto to fund my education and support my passion to improve my education and support as well as grow my knowledge for my current and future roles within Verto.
“I was the second person to graduate in my family and now all three of my siblings have graduated. We all value the importance of having an education to support and grow our knowledge.
“I have lived in a regional location my entire life and at CSU I was not just a number to my lecturers but I was a name and one that they cared about and wanted to support and see exceed – for this I am very grateful. I believe that regional locations are not disadvantaged and the reputation of CSU certainly supports this. The reputation is there, the opportunities are there, the support is there, the resources and course offering are there, so what are you waiting for?”
