CSU Live Testimonial

Sarah Beltrame
Master of Information Studies (Librarianship)

Sarah Beltrame"I chose to study with Charles Sturt University (CSU) as I had previously studied with them and was already comfortable in the CSU environment. I also wanted a course that was reputable in the industry. My friend recommended the course to me and I have since met many librarians who are CSU Alumni and who highly recommended the course.

"I mostly lived in Wagga Wagga while studying and shortly after commencing the course I was successfully appointed to a Library Assistant role in the CSU Library. Prior to that, I had worked in customer services roles in retail and the government sector. The combination of my study and previous customer service and management experience enabled me to obtain higher duties as a team leader before securing a position as a librarian. As someone who identifies as an eternal student, librarianship seemed like an ideal profession to foster my interest in learning and literacy. The course acted as a form of professional development which assisted me in developing the skills required to progress my career by providing me with strong theoretical knowledge on which to build my professional practice.

"At times it was difficult to fit study into my life around my other commitments. However, I was able to exert some control by varying my study load according to my work schedule or planned commitments. This meant that sometimes I studied several subjects in a session, while other times I only took on one subject.

"While I prefer to study on campus, some of the benefits of online study included the ability to study at my own pace and to study at a time convenient to me. Online study provided more flexibility, which suited me due to work, family, and other competing commitments.

"I completed my work placement at the National Gallery of Australia Research Library. This was an excellent opportunity to learn about library services in an institution different to my own. It was fascinating to learn about the history of the Research Library and their evolution from the opening of the National Gallery through to the services and facilities they offer today.

"My most memorable CSU experience was my tour of Singaporean libraries, which was offered by the School of Information Studies in conjunction with CSU Global. This tour enabled me to gain insight into the way culture and geography impact the delivery of library services. It was a wonderful opportunity both for my professional development and to meet my fellow students from around the world.

"If you require the flexibility of online study then CSU is a good option. The School of Information Studies in particular is very good at delivering online education."
