Proposed 2013 programs

With another year of study drawing to a close you might be thinking about subject selection for 2013.

As a CSU student you can combine overseas travel and study through a number of CSU Global opportunities.  This can include participation in short term programs to various destinations worldwide.

The School of Computing and Mathematics is designing a 3 week study program in Malaysia in July next year. Through the program you will be immersed in the highest level of interaction in information technology business at the national level. You will not just look at computer hard disks but visit the factory that makes them. You will learn about business, interact with people and understand cultures as outlined by the Federal Government in the Asian Century concept. There will be places to visit, food to taste, sights to see and experiences to take in.

Eligible students will receive credit for their participation in the program through enrolment in an optional elective subject.

If you want to find out more about this fantastic opportunity email Anthony Chan - achan@csu.edu.au .

It's never too early to start planning for the trip of a lifetime!

"Personally it benefitted me by providing me a positive experience and deepened my understanding and intercultural skills by meeting new people and interacting with different cultures and it was an amazing way to learn new knowledge from within the workplace. I will tell everyone of my amazing experience and encourage all students to attend a global program." Philippines Short term program participant 2012.

Faculty of Education students still have time to apply for the The University of Jyväskylä's International Winter School in Sport Sciences (Finland) to be run from 8-18 January 2013. Courses include International Perspectives to Organisation and Management of Sport, Sport Marketing or Winter Sports.

More information, including application forms, can be found at https://www.jyu.fi/sport/en/study/non_degree/wsss2013 .  Students should also contact the school (aszadura@csu.edu.au) with enquiries regarding academic credit and program details.

Internships

Canadian Internship Opportunities

Australian citizens between 18 and 30 years of age are invited to complete an internship in Canada. You could gain valuable international work experience in Canada related to your field of study while exploring a new country and making new friends.

In a global economy being a highly skilled worker with international experience will make you more marketable and more competative in the global workplace.

Canada has an arrangement with Australia that enables the Government of Canada to issue work permits to Australian citizens who wish to travel and work in Canada for up to two years through International Experience Canada.

To meet the eligibility criteria for the International Co-op (Internship) Category you must:

  • be an Australian citizen;
  • be between the ages of 18 and 30 (inclusive);
  • have the equivalent of C$ 2,500 to help cover your expenses at the beginning of your stay;
  • be prepared to take out health-care insurance for the duration of your stay – you may have to present evidence of this insurance when you enter Canada;
  • pay a participation fee
  • be registered as a student in Australia;
  • have received a signed letter of offer or contract for a work placement or internship in Canada that meets the requirements of your academic curriculum in Australia

Admissibility (for a work permit)

Every person who enters Canada as a temporary resident (visitor, worker or student) must meet general requirements for temporary entry as set out in Canada's Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and its regulations.

At any time during the processing of your application, Citizenship and Immigration Canada may request additional information or documents to determine your admissibility.

Where could you work?

You could find yourself on internship working at a museum in Québec City, helping at a veterinary clinic for farm animals in Saskatoon or planning conferences in Vancouver.... The possibilities are as endless as the experiences you can add to your résumé!
