International Experience Program: Malaysia

Topic Area: Asian Century: Technology and Business Relationships
This is a trip that will allow you to gain first-hand understanding of Asian technology and business relationships in Malaysia. It presents an opportunity for you to meet, learn from and interact with high level political and business personnel and future leaders.
This program is modelled on the Australian Government’s ambition to present the concept of the Asian Century to Australian students. The destination is a melting pot of cultures, traditions and people who come from all corners of the world. You will not only experience multiple languages, food adventures and cultural activities but you will become acquainted with a variety of business practices that have been established in the middle of south-east Asia.

Program Dates: 2 (or 3 July) to 16 (or 17 July) 2013 (exact dates to be confirmed)
Number of places available: 14
NB. This program will require 10 students to proceed.
Program Cost: approx AUD$3700.00
*NB: The $500 Vice Chancellor Travel Grant (for eligible students) is not awarded directly to individuals, but incorporated into the program fee
Costs should include: Program fee*, international flights, in-country accommodation (twin share basis), most meals, insurance.
Transportation costs and meals taken during personal shopping and while on the road or in the air in Malaysia is not covered. Internal domestic travel to Sydney and one night accommodation in Sydney before trip departure is on your own.
*Program fee does not include CSU subject fees.
Eligibility: You must be an enrolled in a Faculty of Business undergraduate degree (Internal or Distance mode) at CSU in 2013.
Credit: Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible for credit in ITC118 Industrial Project. You must contact your Course Director to discuss credit approval. Only this subject is available for credit.
Please note all CSU Global Programs are group ticketed. Your program will depart from Sydney International Airport and return to Sydney International Airport on the dates listed.

Kuala Lumpur:
- Meeting with National ICT planners – MdEC
- Visit to a leading animation company for Hollywood productions
- Visit and dinner with a Cabinet Minister
- Meeting with Senior Management of Air Asia (World’s Best Low Cost Airline 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2007) serving 400 destinations in 25 countries
- Visit to the Australian High Commission, Kuala Lumpur
- Academic Activities and Learning at HELP University
- Local sightseeing and tour
Penang:
- Visit and dialogue with Senior Management of Seagate Industries (manufacturer of computer hard disks and data storage)
- Visit and dialogue with local senior politician on trade development
- Local sightseeing and tour
- Reflection and workshop
Your program leader - CSU Academic Anthony Chan, has extensive knowledge of Malaysia having lived and worked in the ICT and education industry there. He is fluent and literate all the main languages in Malaysia. The month of July is an obligatory fasting month for Muslims and as such all Muslim program participants must abide by the country's laws regarding Ramadan whilst in Malaysia. Non-Muslims need not fast. Visits to certain buildings/offices, certain places of religious significance and meetings with certain VIPs may be subject to an obligatory dress code.
