International Professional Experience Program: Kathmandu, Nepal

Students will spend 3 weeks weeks living in Kathmandu participating in a fully credited professional experience (practicum) placement at Schools supported by the Mitrataa Foundation. Students will teach 6 days per week and assist in the running of a workshop for local teachers at the Mitrataa Teacher Training Centre.  There will be a few free days at the end for student to explore Nepal.

This program is partially funded by the Australian Government’s Study Overseas Short-term Mobility Program through the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education. CSU recognises the support of the Australian Government in providing targeted funds which have subsidised the cost of this program to students.

NB. This program will require 10 students to proceed.

Program Cost: Approx: $1000 (exact costs TBC)*

*The $500 Vice Chancellor Travel Grant (for eligible students) and DICCSRTE is not awarded directly to individuals but has already been included in program costings.

Cost Includes: program fee, international airfares, airport pickup, insurance, accommodation, visas (for those travelling on Australian passports).

Costs do not include CSU subject fees, meals, daily transport to placement, sightseeing and excursions

Please note all CSU Global Programs are group ticketed. Your program will depart from Sydney International Airport and return to Sydney International Airport on the dates listed.

Eligibility: This program is most relevant to students from the BEd(K-12 Middle Schooling) and BEd(EC&Prim) courses.  Students from other teacher education courses are also welcome to apply.

Credit:

  • B Ed (K-12 Middle Schooling) students could receive 3 weeks credit for either the primary (K-2) or secondary component of the EPT426 Professional Experience placement.
  • B Ed(EC&Prim) students may be able to receive 3 weeks credit for the EPT317 (Primary 3-6) placement.
  • B Ed(Prim) students could complete a two week non-accredited practicum placement as an 8 credit point elective substitution
  • Other students should discuss possible credit options with their Course Director.
  • All students participating in the program are eligible to enrol in the 0 credit point EEB310: International Cultural and Education Program in recognition of students' full and compliant participation in an International Short Term Program.  There is no cost to students.  The subject ensures that student participation is captured on their transcript.

Indicative Application Time-line:

  • Application closing date: 12 August, 2013
    (Students will need to submit a passport, valid for at least 6 months from the time of departure by 3 September 2013)
  • Non-refundable $400 deposit due: 16 August, 2013
  • Final payment date: 3 September, 2013
  • Pre-departure cross cultural orientation: September/October (exact dates TBA)
  • Pre-departure teleconference briefings: TBA
