International Experience Program: Kreuzlingen, Switzerland

Proposed 2013 program 

This is a 3 – 6 week professional experience placement (depending on your course and placement requirements) in the International School of Kreuzlingen and Konstanz (ISKK).  You'll learn new skills by observing practitioners from Europe and teaching the inquiry-based IB curriculum.  You will have the experience of living in and learning about two different cultures as you will live in student accommodation at Hochschule-Konstanz University in Konstanz, Germany and walk or take a short bus ride to the school just across the border in Switzerland. The International School of Kreuzlingen and Konstanz (ISKK) in Switzerland offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum for students aged 3-16 years.

Program Dates:  Commences 4 November, 2013 (return date will vary according to duration of placement)

Number of places:  4 

Two at primary level and two at secondary level. 

Program Cost: $345-$420*

Costs Include: Accommodation only

Costs do not include: CSU subject fees, airfares, travel insurance, medical insurance, visas, meals, in-country transport

*Students may be eligible for the Vice Chancellor $500 Travel Grant and Faculty of Education Travel Grant of $500, which they can use towards these costs. Further details on the Vice Chancellor Travel Grant can be obtained here

Eligibility: This program is most relevant to students from the following courses:
 - Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling) in English, Mathematics and Business Studies;
 - Bachelor of Education (TAS) in IT;
 - Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Primary); and
 - Bachelor of Education (Primary).

Students from other teacher education courses may also be eligible to apply, including those enrolled in postgraduate teaching courses. Please consult with your Course Director for further advise on eligibility and credit.

Indicative Credit:   

  • Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling) students could receive 3 weeks credit for each of the primary (K-2) or secondary component of the EPT426 Professional Experience placement.   Students can undertake both 3 week placements at ISKK or one at ISKK and the other in Australia.
  • Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling) students are also eligible to receive credit for a diverse placement in EPT321 (working with any age group).
  • Bachelor of Education (TAS) students could receive 5 weeks credit for EPT442.
  • Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood & Primary) students may be able to receive 3 weeks credit for the EPT317 (Primary 3-6) placement.
  • Bachelor of Education (Primary) students may be able to receive 5 weeks credit for the primary component of EPT315.
  • Students from other courses must discuss options with their Course Coordinator/Director.

All students participating in the program are eligible to enrol in the 0 credit point EEB310:   International Cultural and Education Program in recognition of students' full and compliant participation in an International Short-term Program.  There is no cost to students.  The subject ensures that student participation is captured on their transcript.

Application time-line:

  • Application closing date:  Friday, 31  May  2013
  • Successful student notification (by email): within two weeks of the closing date
  • Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the time of departure and submit a copy to CSU Global
  • Organise your flight, travel insurance and additional medical insurance.
  • Accommodation will be booked by the Faculty on your behalf and advice will be provided to you as to how to pay for this  
  • Pre-departure orientations (linked via videoconference):  September /October (dates to be confirmed).
