International Experience Program: Walailak University Summer Program and School Experience, Thailand

A CSU staff member will accompany the group as they take part in a two week cultural studies program at Wailalak University in Nakhon Si Thammarat and then spend two weeks in the local Thai school system.

The Wailalak University Summer School includes study about Thai language, music, food, religion, history and cultural. Thai lifestyle is explored. Students are linked with a WU buddy who joins them after their classes (usually after hours). The WU buddy will assist students to adjust smoothly to the new surroundings. Availing of the buddy program, students can make life-long friendship and learn about student life in Thailand and venture around Nakhon.

During the two week school visit program students will learn about the characteristics of the Thai school setting and have the opportunity to work with students in small group or co-teaching to whole classes.

The program involves weekend trips to sites such Kradan and Muk Islands and  Khanom Beach.

Number:  maximum 12 students
N.B. This program will require 10 students to go proceed.

Program Cost: Approx: $2,600* - based on 2012 program fees

*The $500 Travel Grant (for eligible students) is already deducted from the program fee.

Costs should include: airfares, health and travel insurance, visas, accommodation and 2 excursions

Eligibility: This program is open to all second, third and fourth year students in the Faculty of Education

Credit:   Credit Provisions (on application)

  • Bachelor of Education (K-12 Middle Schooling) students are eligible for 1 week credit for the diverse placement in EPT 321.         
  • Bachelor of Education (HPE) students are eligible for 2 week diverse placement credit in EPT 441.                        
  • Bachelor of Education (Primary) students may be eligible for an 8 credit point subject elective substitution.     

*All students participating in the program will be eligible to enrol in the 0 credit point subject International Cultural and Educational Program in recognition of full participation. There is no cost to students. This ensures student participation is captured on their transcript.

  • Non-refundable $100 deposit due: 
  • Final payment date: September  

(Students will need to submit a passport, valid for at least 6 months from the time of departure by 9 September)
