International Experience Program: Korea

School of Biomedical Sciences - Kyunghee University Program - Proposed 2013 program

nullCSU students will be involved in pharmacological research with medicinal herbs in a university laboratory under Dr Hyung-Min Kim (Oriental Medical School). Dr. Kim is currently serving as an editor of American Journal of Chinese Medicine and an editor-in-chief of TANG (Traditional Medicine journal). You will experience the lab research and the unique Korean culture. Each student will be matched with an English speaking Korean postgraduate student to carry out the research. 

The tour will take students to:

  • Kyunghee University Oriental Medical Hospital
  • Pharmaceutical company: Dong-A Pharm. Co., Ltd. (www.donga.co.kr)
  • Various significant tourist sites

The overall aims of the Korea short term program are:

  • Broaden student's awareness of international health issues
  • Expose students to international health research
  • Provide students with a broader understanding of careers in health science
  • Provide students with a personal development opportunity within a supportive learning environment

Program dates: 24 June - 5 July, 2013 (2 weeks)

Number of places: 8

Cost: Approx: $2600

*The $500 Vice Chancellor Travel Grant (for eligible students) is not awarded directly to individuals but has already been included in program costings.

Costs should include: international flights, insurance, home-stay accommodation (breakfast served)

Not included: CSU subject fees, domestic transport, meals, visas (where applicable)

Note: All CSU Global programs are group ticketed. Your program will depart from Sydney and return to Sydney on the dates listed. Home-stay families are citizens of Seoul and can speak English.

Eligibility: Pharmacy, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences, Clinical Sciences, Food and Nutrition and Complementary Medicine students

Credit Arrangements: Students in courses where SCI301 International Practice Experience is listed as an elective may include this trip as part of that subject. Similarly students with a free elective in their course can include SCI301. Students in courses without electives or where SCI301 is not listed as an elective should contact their Course Director to discuss whether the trip can be counted towards course based placement requirements.

  • $500 non-refundable deposit due: 10 May
  • Full payment due: 17 May
A visa is NOT required for Australian passport holders
